Only if iWeb supports FTP or WebDAV publishing and customizeable templates. If it requires .Mac, then I really have no use for it. Anyone know?

It requires .Mac. Now, whether it's hackable or not, who knows -- I don't know if the .Mac servers are providing any services, for instance, when you publish your pages.

It says right on the iWeb info page that .Mac is not required, but suggested. Straight from the site:

*iWeb publishing requires Internet and webserver access (.Mac recommended)

I think Apple is downplaying this fact to get more .Mac subscribers.

Thx; I hadn't seen that page when I tested ... and strangely, when I asked an Apple rep in the booth, I got the ".Mac required" answer!

After some hands-on experimentation with iWeb at the Expo, I found that it either publishes to .Mac or exports HTML (and related files) to a directory. From there one could publish the contents but as of yet it does not support FTP or WebDAV.

I was impressed with the quality of the HTML output. It creates a nice hierarchy of folders with all the content contained in a single parent directory. Unfortunately, the HTML was not indented or saved with whitespace (but mercifully there were line breaks).

I'd love to see if the HTML output is compliant with current web standards. Is a DOCTYPE declared? If so, is the code valid? E.g., does it pass a validation test as offered at the w3.org site? (http://validator.w3.org/)

The code seems to be Transitional XHTML, but it's far from semantic. Read Todd Dominey's analysis.

I'm really excited about the ability to bring in your iMovie as a GarageBand track. That will make creating music for iMovie project MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier. :D For me, that is worth the price of admission alone.

I also am interested in the "1-click" publishing theme going on within the updates.

Looking forward to getting my new "toys."

I'm unclear as to why iLife comes with iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie. Aren't these standard apps that comes with any Panther or Tiger DVD?

iTunes is a free download, yes, but the others are bundled on new Macs. They are not on the OS install disks (although they are probably on the system restore disks).

iLife was really a let down. All the new features seem to revolve around blogs, podcasts, and such, which I do not use. I do not use iWork, so those programs do not really matter to me. Really, the only announcement that I liked was the Macbook Pro, because of the iSight and the increased speed and longer battery life (yeah, baby!). Now how about a 17"er.

I agree, none of the "New Features" really excite me. I only use iPhoto, and iTunes of the iLife Apps and iPhoto 5 works for my needs. I am probably not going to spend the money to buy the new bells and whistles that will slow things down more by doing things I don't use.

I am intrigued that as of today there are more votes for Pages than for Keynote. I would have expected the opposite.

OK, so I voted for iWeb, but really, there wasn't anything in the new iLife suite that grabbed my attention. They've all got the nice Apple interface, make life easy for most people, and it doesn't do anything for me, just some more nice solid good looking apps from Apple.

Where is something so fantastic that I didn't even know I needed it before Apple announced it.

So now I'm just waiting for my new DualCore PowerBook (sorry, I mean MacBook Pro), on order to replace my old PowerBook (Ti800)
