U Store
There should be another option in this poll. My university is selling Leopard starting at 9AM on Friday the 26th. That's when I'll be getting it.

U Store
Me too. Only $79 for the single license.
Has anyone seen a Family pack offered for less at a school store? My school won't have the Family pack at all…
"Never"?
To those who are "never going to upgrade," I ask, "Why?"
"Never"?
Do I need to run Classic on my PowerBook?
Yes. Do I have enough space on its internal HD for a separate Volume with Tiger to run Classic? No. Is "Full Unicode Support for AppleScript" - the only new "feature" that REALLY caught my attention - worth CHF 189? No. So, after *carefully* reading the page with those 300+ "features", I can say that I can live and work happily without Leopard, because for most of the other new useful features (this time without quotes!) I already have working 3rd party solutions. That said, it's likely that I'll purchase a new MBP within the next few years which will come with Leo preinstalled. This option is missing in this poll.
"Never"?
You can find 3rd party software to replace Leopard's features, but you can't find 3rd party software to replace what you need in Classic?
"Never"?
Nice one ;)
"Never"?
Re: "You can find 3rd party software to replace Leopard's features"
I'm not even searching it, I've got already everything I need for quite some time, before I knew what Leo will bring. No need to change running workflows. Re: "but you can't find 3rd party software to replace what you need in Classic?" Hm, so you would be probably upgrading Freehand 9 to Freehand MX, wouldn't you...? Not that I use FH9 daily or even weekly, but there are still times when I need to open an old layout which is not worth rebuilding in InDesign or in Illustrator.
"Never"?
I just moved from OS X to Ubuntu, about a month ago, because there is no good focus-follows-mouse implementation in OS X. Almost every time I used my Mac I wanted to throw it out a window because it just wouldn't behave properly, luckily (k)Ubuntu stepped up and saved me from having to switch back to Windows + True X-Mouse.
"Never"?
Because Apple deemed my G4, 450 MP unsuitable. If and when someone puts out a hack that'll bypass that limitation (i.e., reading the machine's processor speed), then I'll upgrade. Any takers??
Need another option...
Add this one and I'll vote:
"I'll get Leopard when I get my next Mac." My Mac is Leopard capable, but I don't plan on upgrading OS because I hope to get a new Mac by early next year.
Need another option...
Well then, that would be option 4, "Roughly three to six months after release". The question was "when", not "how". If that were the case, I suppose there should also be an option for "I'll be stealing it off the Internet" and another for "I'll be stealing it by borrowing the DVD off a friend" :-)
I think a "why" poll would be good, too.
What about Tiger
When Leo goes on sale there will be a fire sale for Tiger. So many skinflints will be buying Tiger. ;)
--- Regards... Barry Sharp
What about Tiger
Not necessarily skinflints, but those with outdated machines that are running Panther. :-)
Within the next week
I chose Already Ordered , though I have not. It will likely be before its release, but technically none of the above options. This is for my DP G5 tower.
I also have a 1GHz iBook G4. I won't buy a copy for it, since I will be buying a MB Pro soon, and it will come with Leopard.
Missing poll option...
How about: "On Nov. 9th whilst I'm picking up the iPhone here in the UK!"
Missing poll option...
no, don't do that, you might get overwhelmed! spread your joy!
Why "never" ? The answer is...
...for several reasons:
- The set of features is widely underwhelming. Many of them have been covered by 3rd party developers anyway. - tech specs: of my 5 Macs, I could upgrade just 2. - pricing: I bought a family pack for the last version for 99 Euros in the Edu store. Leopard is 199 Euros, i. e . twice the price. If we then take into account that the Euro vs. $ is above 1,42 at the moment, I would effectively pay close to 290 $. Underwhelming set of features, requiring a hardware upgrade, and this for a substantial amount of money ? Sounds like the strategy of a different company we all know... PS: I downloaded Ubuntu just yesterday.
Can G4/450 run Leopard?
My oldest Mac is a G4/450 MHz tower, presently running 10.2.8. I'd like to upgrade it to Leopard along with my newer Mac, but the specs for Leopard say that 867 MHz is the minimum.
Does anyone know if this is a requirement, or just a recommendation? I've run Panther from an external disk on this Mac with no problems. Susan K |
