Not just one
IPhoto 5 and Pages.
RAW support.. I mean, RAW Support? Rock. --- /Nite - "can't rain all the time" [ http://www.nitesade.net ]
Not just one but not all RAW
Seems like iPhoto 5 only likes SOME raw format images. My Canon S30's raw images aren't recognized, and neither are .DNG format raw files. Until they are, I'm sticking with iView Media Pro.
Apple software is not all that great
When I first received my apple computer, I was impressed with Apple's software such as ical, address book, etc... I no longer use any of these programs as they are not compatible with the software that I use at work. By far, the software that I love the best and I am not able to live without is Butler and Code Tek Virtual desktop. Entourage mail is also very cool.
In my opinion, Apple makes their software good enough, it is not in the realm of great software. thx RLC --- rlc
re: Apple software is not all that great
I must disagree on several points:
-- If GarageBand, iCal, Pages, iMovie and similar apps don't count as "great" to you, you're not Apple's target market there. Bearing in mind that the Mac was originally billed [and most successful] as "the computer for the rest of us," is it so surprising that iLife and similar apps are still designed that way? The ease-of-use for non-technophiles (read: people that don't post to technical tip sites) is what makes them great. -- Logic, Shake and Final Cut not great? Ask -any- sound designer, compositor, or broadcaster with a Mac. At the [globally-known] design school I work for, we don't teach the "other stuff" too heavily in these apps' niches, which are not insignificant. Don't forget the other software they put out. One of Apple's other little application suites you may have heard of, "OS X," _is_ great. --j!mmy --- -------------------------------------------- d i l i g e n t i a . v i s . c e l e r i t a s --------------------------------------------
*Logic* is not all that great
Ask -any- sound designer, compositor, or broadcaster with a Mac. I'm a Sound Designer and an Engineer. And I have owned several Macs. I HATE working in Logic. Now, I know a lot of people seem to like it, but the few I know are looking at switching to Ableton Live 4, and the others who have been using it, but don't love it are looking at various other programs to switch to. In the studio I use Protools, and I have used Logic, DP, and Sonic before as well. I currently do live recording for a TV show using Logic, as it is available, and I do not have a PT rig I would take to that location at this point (too many smokers to take the main rig there). Logic has to be the most inflexible mixing environment I have seen since Cakewalk/Sonar & Cubase/Nuendo, and if I need to make changes on the fly it literally feels like fighting the app to get it done. And yes I have set up the enviroment extensively for the situation. I won't even go into how painful it can be if your hardware wasn't available when you launch Logic. Logic 7 is especially bad, as with the distributed plug-in capabilities they really cause issues with plug-ins no longer being compatible, and it is way buggier than 6 is. Not very Apple like, IMHO. Now if you want to talk FCP & Shake, yeah, those just simply rock. Some students I work with who are mainly taught Premiere are taking a class in FCP this semester, and they are amazed at how much more efficient of an environment it is to work in.
iTunes 4.5+ changed the way I buy/listen to music
Admittedly my iPod gives me great incentive to use iTunes, so that has something to do with it, too.
iPhoto (in conjunction with my digicam) comes in a close second, and I am very excited to see the great new features in iPhoto 5 (I have iPhoto 4). --Books
