why do you need to monitor at all?

Maybe it's because I'm still a kid, but I never really understood why parents want to know how much time their children are spending on a website, assuming it's not porn or something illicit - what will that really tell you about their internet usage habit, that they're checking email? Besides, with all the desktop mail clients, this seems ridiculously easy to get around...
