I hit command-tab and click on the icon of the app I want to view - seems to work best for me when I'm not in keyboard-only mode.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the problem, but holding down "Command" and tapping the "Tab" key cycles through all open Apps as many times as you want it to. Tapping the "Q" over the highlighted App will also Quit.

Totally_

+Tab goes to the Right and wraps back to the Left when you reach the end_

+Shift+Tab goes to the Left and wraps back to the Right when you reach the end_

This has been the case since the mid Ninties at least [just don't remember details further back]_ Same functionality and everything_
