View giant desktop icons in any version of OS X

In case future readers have come here to find out how to undo or reverse this change:

A simple way that worked for me was to click on the Desktop, choose View Options, and then move the slider that resizes icons. They instantly popped down in size, from 256 X 256 to 128 X 128.

That spared me the trouble of typing the hint's long command line into Terminal with the number 128 substituted for 256. That should also work, but I didn't try it because touching the slider worked for me.
