For those of you Leopard users who are experiencing problems getting this hint (and other hints involving creating a custom keyboard shortcut for Finder commands) to work correctly, you can work around problems using (at least) two different methods:

open Terminal.app and enter the command killall Dock - By far the easiest method.

Or the good-ol' fashioned Restart will suffice.
