Well while this is all well and good, I would think this would just be a stopgap measure to switch full-time to GMail. If I am using an iPhone, clearly IMAP email with IDLE support is probably the best way to use email on the device currently. Hotmail (even Plus!) doesn't provide such functionality right now, so I would simply migrate my mail over to GMail permanently. I might even pay for Plus! for one month to get POP access to my old hotmail stuff so I could use GMail to suck up all my old messages, then turn on forwarding and do the legwork to change my email for good.

I don't even have an iPhone, and I did this just to get decent IMAP support for free, and I had Hotmail Plus!, even.
