No kidding. I've always used Lithium batteries in my mouse and once the warning starts flashing I've got less than an hour of use left. Time to change them.

I agree, when the battery warnings start, you've got little battery life left. Lithiums seem to die rapidly.
I'm beginning to wonder if it is worth the expense of using lithium batteries in the mouse. Apple wireless mice ship with lithiums, they're very light and the mouse is easier to move around. But lithiums are expensive, so I've recently switched to regular alkaline batteries, I'll see if it's cheaper in the long run.

I have only come across lithium batteries from Apple. I've never used alkaline batteries in my mouse. Instead once the original lithium batteries are worn out, I use rechargable batteries. I'm currently using 2000mAh Ni-Mh, which seem to last at most a couple of weeks before the first warning comes on, then for a month or so. This means that it sits on the warning for significantly more time than without claiming I need to change them. Maybe the problem is that rechargeable batteries run on 1.2 volts instead of 1.5 volts.
