If your plasma has an unused HDMI port, I'd suggest getting a DVI -> HDMI cable (I think cost me $10 on NewEgg). Automatically sets to the best/native resolution of your TV (mine happens to be 1080p even though the TV was advertised as only doing up to 1080i)

Not sure that will fix the problem though, since allegedly the black screen will return when the problem monitor is attached again.
