Media browser for non-iPhoto pictures?

Does anyone know of any way to browse pictures on your disk via the media browser? Since I don't use iPhoto this potentially great feature appears to be useless.

I could be wrong, but I believe the core of how the media browser works is based on iLife frameworks. In other words, if you don't have music or photos stored in iTunes or iPhoto, media browser doesn't "see" anything.
