If you don't have .Mac, then you can't access the tab to turn on the menubar item.

Anyone who uses .Mac able to figure out the defaults command that will show the menu bar item?

iSync Preferences ---> Show status in menu bar

Yeah, I saw that too. Mustn't have looked hard enough the first time. Was just coming back on here to reply to my previous comment.
