oki, i tried that in terminal...

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine MaxSize 471859200
[400GB limit on a 700GB drive]

seemed like it processed...
but now timemachine is not backing up at all...
what's the reset code?
[should have known that before i tried it i know... :s ]

defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine MaxSize
