Same here, and I've been adding Network volumes to the Dock for ages. The "feature" is that when you open a share in Column view, the item is accessed and mounted because Column view expands the folders. When you're in List or Icon view, you just have to double click on the volume to open it, and then you can create an alias wherever you want.
