10.5: Keep hard drive icons anywhere on the desktop

My servers (a Mac server and a Windows server) don't show up on the desktop--only disks connected directly to my Mac show up. The servers show up in the finder window side panel under "Shared" but not on the desktop. At first, I didn't like that but I have come to appreciate it especially since I have an icon in the dock anyway--less clutter on the desktop. I guess I could always drag an alias to the desktop but I don't want to!

Have a look in Finder preferences, under the General tab - the check box for show Connected servers on the desktop might be off
