You can also use Q while tabbing to quit applications quickly.

Let me do some advertising for LiteSwitch, I have been using it from day one, mainly since I can use "A" to hide all other apps and also since I can move the position and customize a lot of other stuff (eg exclude certain apps)

Agreed -- LiteSwitch is still a killer add-on for me. I was quite please to discover it still works great in Leopard ;-)
