I would also suggest, when you are in the Space prefpane.
That instead of clicking the plus button, and navigating to the apps folder inside of it.
Open up the application's folder in 'Finder" as a window. Select all the apps you may ever want to add to the list.
Then drag and drop them onto the list. They all get added at the same time.

You can also drag the applications from the finder onto the space graphic above the list. It saves a lot of time when you're assigning several apps to the same space.
