Charge iPhone While Mac is Sleeping

My PowerBook G4 would charge my iPod while asleep. That was a PowerPC computer and a 3G iPod. The caveat, and a fairly obvious one, was that the computer had to be plugged in to provide the power; if you were running on battery power, no iPod charging while asleep. Otherwise, when plugged in, the iPod would charge just fine over FireWire.
