10.5: Avoid 'resource busy' errors in Disk Utility
Authored by: RobLewis on Thu, Jan 1 2009 at 12:00PM PST
Thanks for this tip. When I got the "resource busy" error, I tried using Disk Utility's "Unmount" button before trying to create the disk image, but this doesn't work because DU no longer sees the drive (didn't it use to have a "Rescan" command to find drives that weren't mounted?)

I unplugged and replugged the FireWire cable so Disk Utility would rediscover the drive, then in the Finder, dragged the drive icon to the trash. Only then was I able to create the disk image. Poor design!
