As far as I can tell, iPhoto only saves the keywords if you export in jpg format, which re-saves the pictures, causing unnecessary image degradation. Is there some workaround for this?

I Wrote a java tool that exports IPhoto 08 keywords to original image files. I use it with my library of 60.000 pics.
