I don't like spaces very much either!

It fails to remember redistribute application windows to different spaces when programs restart.

As of now I use two spaces with iTunes running in number 2.

Think i will use Fluid to make some site specific apps for cover art hunting to run alongside iTunes, since all Safari windows always end up in number one and putting them were they belong is such a drag.
