Create a 'silent' mode on the iPhone

I personally make good use of a "silent" ringtone on my iPhone.

I tend to get a more than a few, shall we say, "spam" calls that I have no interest in answering. When I receive a call from an unknown number, I simply save that number to a generic contact, and assign the "silent" ringtone to them. I repeat this process with any other unknown calls, adding them all to this same contact. This way when my phone audibly rings, I know its a legit call, and if doesn't (or just vibrates since I have that turned on), I'll know to ignore it. Even further, a simple double click to the sleep button will toss these calls directly to your voicemail.

I think of it as kind of like "junk mail" filtering for phone calls.
