10.6: Use Exposé hot keys with the App Switcher System 10.6
Snow Leopard introduced a 'click and hold' feature for app icons in the Dock, to reveal application windows with a new 'Exposé in the Dock' effect. But most keyboard lovers don't really think that's too useful.

However, you can activate the effect from the Command-Tab switcher by pressing the Down or Up keys while holding Command. After the Exposé effect appears, you can release the Up/Down keys, and then press Tab or Shift-Tab to choose from opened applications.

But choosing a window needs too many key presses: You must at least press one arrow key (Up, Down, Left, or Right) to make the blue focus box appear. After you choose a window, press Space Bar to Quick Look the window, or press Enter to bring the window to front. (Of course, you can hover and click if you reach for the mouse, too.)

This hint has the potential to be really useful. If you use a four finger swipe to activate the application switcher it is not necessary to hold command when pressing the up or down arrows.

As with other GUI features, hold down shift when selecting a window from Expose, and you will get the window restored in slow motion.

In Expose preferences I have the right command key (right next to my trackpad) instead of F9 as the keyboard shortcut.

After pressing Command-Tab, then pressing an up or down arrow key, IF you then release the Command key press the Tab key (without the Command key) you'll cycle through a series of windows rather than apps. Sounds more complicated in print than it is to use.

Command-Tab => up arrow => Tab to cycle apps by window only.

"At frakking last" is all I can say.

You've been able to invoke either the all windows or application windows mode and use tab to flick through as standard exposé behaviour since 10.3. This is just what your experiencing.

I dislike the way in 10.6 that application windows mode in expose doesn't show the other application windows ordered and darkened in the background anymore. QQ

Try this: Command + Tab; up/down arrow; Tab, Tab ... Tab => you will be cycled through all open windows, one app at a time. Cool

This is the same as invoking Exposé in any of the usual ways (like F3, F9 or F10), and then hit Tab to start showing Exposé per application. This used to work in Leopard as well.

So, the following are all the same, the first is new:

Cmd-Tab, Arrow Up, Tab
F9, Tab (or F3, Tab on newer keyboards)
F10, Tab (or Ctrl-F3, Tab on newer keyboards)

Also, after you Command-Tab; up or down; then tap ` (above the Tab, which usually reverse-cycles through the open apps) to cycle through open windows an app at a time without actually showing the horizontal app display!

after invoking Exposé you can also use two-finger-scrolling on the trackpad to change the highlighted window and make your selection, although I think there's a bug preventing this from working properly (or the arrow keys from working properly) if you have windows minimised.

If anyone gets sick of the ugly blue glow there is a quick fix to change to a transparent Glow here:

After using Expose 50+ times a day I couldn't take the BLUE anymore!!!

To go backwards you can hit `(backquote/tilde key) instead of Shift + Tab.

I noticed the same behavior After pressing Command-Tab, but then pressing the "1" key! I can keep it all in the left hand now no need for the arrow keys. When I pressed the one again it swapped the window position but only in safari.. so far..
