10.6: Use a Dell 5100cn laser printer in Snow Leopard Printers
You've probably discovered that your Dell 5100cn color laser doesn't play well with Snow Leopard. Before you list the 5100cn on Craigslist, try this:

Delete your old Dell printer in the Print & Fax System Preferences panel. Install a new printer, but select the Mac-installed Samsung CLP-770 Series PS, and presto! You are back in business, complete with duplex printing and toner supply levels. Sweet!

I use a 5100cn at work, and after installing the drivers from Dell, I'm seeing full functionality in regards to duplex and supply levels.

I did, however, have to go into the printer detail (Options and Supplies, then the Driver tab), and select the proper driver of "Dell Color Laser 5110cn v3015.103 PS," because even though I'd selected the Dell drivers when I added the printer, the driver selection was still initially showing as "Generic Postscript Printer."

Do you know if there are any issues with the Dell 3100cn? My boss is usually eager to update to a new OS without checking on printer issues, etc

I was pi**ed that I could no longer use the full functionality of my 5100cn after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Fortunately, after a little research and help from others I got it back. Install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard Optional Install Package on the install disk. Then download and install the Mac OS X driver available from Dell. After I did that the driver was selectable I couold add the 5100cn as a new printer and I'm back in business.

I tried it all. I followed every bit of advice I could find and nothing I did made it work UNTIL... (Keep in mind, I'm in a windows network in a large corporation)... I added the printer using "Windows" in the "Add Printer" dialog and browsed through the network (having to enter my network credentials each time I dug through a server) until I found the printer, selected the appropriate driver and I could finally print!!!

The first couple times I had to enter my network credentials, but it now works!

I really think the problem was that when I originally set up the printer using "IP", it never asked for my network credentials and hence probably failed.

Hopefully this helped somebody.
