Hate to say this, but SoundSource does not work with SL.

It works, but every time you reboot it loses its settings and
defaults back to internal sound. At least this is the case on
my Mac Pro. SoundSource worked fine under Leopard but
not in SL. The developers refuse to answer any support
emails.

My iMac is linked, trough the headphone plug, to my radio.

The problem is when the radio isn't on, NO sound at all.

Is there a way to have both, the speakers of my radio AND iMac's speakers ?

Wondering about more of the sound I/O behaviour under 10.6:

I use SoundSource on my Mac Pro (running 10.5) because it switches audio out automatically between headphones and line when headphones are plugged in or removed. This model of Mac doesn't do this on its own as some other models do (discussed here, among other places).

Does the built-in sound control in 10.6 address this, or should I continue to use SoundSource when I upgrade the OS on this machine?

I've not updated yet, and decided to play with the Sound icon in 10.5.8. Clicking, Cmd-click and Ctrl-click all seem to modify the standard output volume. However, Option-click brings up the same slider, but at a different setting. Changing that setting doesn't seem to affect volume, and the setting is retained. It doesn't seem to be balance. Not sure what it's affecting.

PTHVolume 2 is an utility for Mac OS X 10.5 and later that is used to control the volume of your Mac OS X machine. For most people the included Mac OS X widget is sufficient for controlling volume. There are however two situations in which PTHVolume 2 is a much more useful alternative.

Multiple Output Device Control. The Mac OS X 10.5 volume widget works for changing the volume if you only have a single audio device connected to your computer. But what happens when you have multiple audio devices? This is where PTHVolume 2 excels, you can individually control the volume of multiple devices without opening up System Preferences.

Volume Control with Non Apple Keyboards. Your type of keyboard is a very personal choice, if you like the keyboards Apple provides then you can just use the standard volume keys. But what happens if you like the IBM Model M style of keyboards, without custom volume keys. Well PTHVolume 2 comes to your rescue, you can set keyboard shortcuts for any and all volume devices

I still prefer SoundSource (now an app compatible with 10.6) since it provides the ability to control individual volume sliders for each input & output.
