10.6: Use old-style contextual menus in the Dock System 10.6
A lot has been said regarding the new "Exposé in the Dock" feature in Snow Leopard. Just click and hold on a Dock icon, and you'll get an Exposé view of all that apps open windows.

I am not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but if you Control-click (or right-click) on a Dock item, you get the pre-10.6-style pop-up Dock menus. They are the new white-on-black HUD style menus, but with the old functionality.

Extra credit goes to the person who finds out how to set this as the default behavior.

If a program is not currently running, (left) clicking and holding brings up the typical menus. The behavior only changes once a program is running.

Are you sure you're reporting on the experience of the GM version 10a432?
That was the result for earlier builds of 10.6 but the retail version that I have on my machine is not exhibiting that behavior.

I retract this. I thought the post was about the colors. The functionality is as described.

I don't consider this the "old-style" contextual menus. The distinction is between normal Dock behavior, and Dock Exposé. However it is an inconsistency in the UI and I wouldn't be surprised if Apple aligns these behaviors in an upcoming release.

I've not used SL yet, but I would consider ctrl/right click to be the 'normal' behaviour - I don't think I've ever done the click and hold thing in 10.5.

Perhaps I will with SL if the behaviour is different.

Working on Macs in a PC environment is like putting on fireworks for the blind. Any noise scares everyone and no one see the brilliance of your work.
