Keep in mind, throughout the system (media side panel, desktop/wallpaper images, etc) you will only have access to the library you most recently activated. So you can't have a library for just your wallpapers and one for just your family photos and be able to use either for your desktop (which sucks imho).

Which is why you lock the iapps plist so that the primary iphoto library will show up through out the OS instead of the secondary one.

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iApps.plist

You have always been able to do this (at least in the last several versions of iPhoto) simply by holding OPTION key down when launching iPhoto...it will allow you to create a new Library or choose an exisiting one.

I was just about to say this... this has been true for a long time with the Option key. And in the previous version of iPhoto, libraries became double clickable (before that they were just seen as a folder by the Finder)... this is not new to iPhoto '09.

Yes, you could hold Option when opening iPhoto to manually choose a secondary iPhoto Library.

What this hint is saying is that in pre-iPhoto '09, if you were to double-click an iPhoto Library in the Finder, pre-iPhoto '09 would open the default iPhoto Library listed here: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iApps.plist.

In iPhoto '09, double-clicking an iPhoto Library will open the iPhoto Library that was double clicked, ignoring the default iPhoto Library.

This slight change makes it much easier to manage multiple iPhoto Libraries in the Finder rather than forcing the user to use a third-party app or forcing the user to hold OPTION and then hunt for their desired iPhoto Library.

Does this work with iPhoto Libraries located on your home network? Or do they have to be on the machine itself?

I've been using iPhoto Buddy it would just be nice to not have to worry about using a third party app to have my library on a home server.

I would imagine that it would be used in the same form and fashion. I don't however believe you can open a library on two different machines at the same time.

I use "iPhoto Library Manager" wich can also move all the pictures of one Album (or Event) from one iPhoto Library to another.

Can we do it in iPhoto 09 without this third party app ?

Related to the home-network question, does this now mean that you can finally back up smaller libraries to DVD and just start them from there (with the understanding that manipulating pictures won't work)?

And if you press the Option key when launching iPhoto 09, it presents a list of libraries to choose from, rather than making you search for them.

Does anyone know how to make that the default beahviour though? Beacuse when I plug a camera or card in, it I don't want it to automatically launch the last library used. It doesn't matter though,, I can keep on using iPhoto Buddy.
