Set Excel to print one page wide by unlimited tall Apps
Here's a quick Excel printing tip. Many times, you want your worksheet to fit in one page's width, but not necessarily one page's length (as longer worksheets would be unreadable). To do this, go to File » Page Setup and in the Fit To section, enter 1 page(s) wide, and then delete the number of pages tall -- just leave it blank.

This will print your spreadsheet at whatever zoom level is necessary for it to be one page wide; it will then be as long as needed to print everything. (If you ever want to print something that's one page tall by however many pages wide, you can do the opposite, too.)

In combination with this you can select the content area and choose
File> Print Area> Set Print Area.

This will push the content right out to the edges of the page.

These 2 features are the most useful things for making a document look decent on paper.

Window> Freeze Panes is also great for making long data sheets more manageable and still being able to see the Column Names. To use this, click in the last x,y cell you want to stay on screen and select 'Freeze Panes'. These cells will always stay on screen when you scroll horizontally or vertically.

In Office 97 on Windows, a long time ago, I used to set the page length to 999. I don't know if that version allowed for an empty value. So: for anyone using a version that requires a value, then simply enter a large number.

Good hint. I've been doing this for years in Excel for Windows.

I sometimes find the need to have a table that is much wider than it is tall. The converse is true: for one page high and unlimited pages wide blank the pages wide and enter 1 page tall.

Old but useful trick

Think that this has always worked on both Mac and Windows versions of Excel since - well ever since I've been using it from early 90s.

Does anyone know how to have an excel sheet automatically scale the file to print on a width of one page? I am making a document that is going to be used by many different people, some not tech savy, and I just want it to print right without them doing anything. I dont know how long the file may be but I know how many columns wide it will always be. Can I set this using VB code?

You've got me confused. To me, your question seems to be exactly what this hint is about?
