Create "If Found" note on iPhone home screen iPhone
I wanted to create a text note that I could save on my iPhone home screen that contained my contact details in case my iPhone was lost and whoever found it was honest enough to try and return it to me. I wanted this note to be accessible regardless of Internet access, and I didn't want to muck up my wallpaper with this info.

This isn't a fool-proof method to make sure that whoever finds your phone knows who it belongs to, but it is better than nothing. All you do is create a webpage with your "if found" details, making sure that the page can be viewed offline, and saving the page as a bookmark on your home screen.
  1. Create a Google account (if you don't already have one). If you do, log into Google.
  2. Go to Google Page Creator.
  3. Create a new page with your "if found" details.
  4. Publish the page. It will create a URL for your page.
  5. Go to http://iwebsaver.com/ on your iPhone.
  6. Type in your Google page URL and click "Save it Now".
  7. When the website loads, save it to your home screen with the name "IF FOUND"
The Google page you created with your "if found" details is now on your home screen, and can be accessed offline. A more foolproof method would be to make a wallpaper with this info, but for those of us who'd like to preserve the iPhone's aesthetics, this is better than nothing.

Seems like there is a market here for an "If Found" App that can go on your home screen. Or, a more complex version of this hint that would have a nice "If Found" icon so anybody finding your phone would be able to easily see it without snooping.

I once found a brand new video ipod in the mud, and I found out who the owner was by hooking it up to iTunes and trying to play some of the copy protected songs - iTunes popped up a dialog with his email and asking for his iTunes store password.

But these and similar ICE (In Case of Emergency) apps are useless if one enables Passcode Lock, as many consider to best practice (for privacy, security, etc.). A foolproof method would be modifying the wallpaper...

So an even better app would be one that automatically puts your info on whatever wallpaper you set ...

Or, just grab an iPhone wallpaper image (or any image) and edit in Photoshop (or whatever you got) and upload it into your iPhone.

Good idea, but pages.google.com says: "Google Page Creator is no longer accepting new sign-ups."

I think 'lowbatteries' had a better idea of making an app with your contact info in it and placing that on the home screen.

Might be a market?

You mean like the free "If Found" application from MobilityWare at the App Store under Utilities? :)

Um.... http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284489612&mt=8 [links to iTunes]

Been there as long as I can remember. And in the interest of FULL disclosure, I am not related in any way to that app, nor do I know who wrote it, excepting that is does work EXACTLY like you expect. Type in a few pieces of info, and it will make your wallpaper exactly the way you need it.
