Listen to music while playing games on iPhone 2.0 iPhone
Simply start listening to your music, then while listening, start your game. Wait until the music stops and the game's music begins. Now just press the top iPhone button; this will put your phone to sleep. Press your headphone button to start the iPod music, than wake up your phone, slide to activate, and you'll be back to the game while listening to your music.

[robg adds: You can also double-tap the Home button to bring up the iPod controller, assuming you have the phone's preferences configured to do so.]

I didn't realize you could configure the double-click action of the home button. I'm guessing that's only on the iPhone. On my iPod Touch it appears to be hard-wired to the music player bezel. Not that I would change it if I could. But out of curiosity, what other function(s) can you choose for that, on the iPhone?

On the iPhone, it's in Settings > General > Home Button. There are three options for the double-click: Home, Phone Favourites, and iPod. There's also a toggle to have it show the iPod Controls on the double-click if there's something playing.

Before v2.0, I had installed a small utility (can't remember the name) that let you choose from a number of other options, which was cool. I used to have it set to go straight to the number keypad, which was great for when you just want to dial something. Alas, will have to wait for someone to make a new hack for that, I guess...

Now that's a really great hint!

Of course, don't be surprised if your battery time is decreasing rapidly after using this hint :-)

YES.

Thank you for this hint. I was griping to my wife the other day about how every time I load up a game, my music turns off. I'm glad there's a way around it.

Doesnt seem to work with the ipod touch and EA games... darn you ea. you can bring up the ipod screen and start to play the music, but when you click close the music fades back out and goes back to whatever the game music is :(

I think this has to do more with the individual game app...I've never had a problem with listening to music and playing Trisim, and the game also respects the phones silent settings.
