Interesting. I tried this with each of the major item types (documents, folders, and apps), and found that you can only open documents and folders this way (though opening trashed folders was always supported by the Trash). The obvious question this raises, is if Apple now allows opening documents that are in the Trash using Quick Look, why not allow trashed documents to be opened by just double-clicking on them where they appear in the Trash window? Maybe Apple hopes that anyone who knows how to open trashed documents using Quick Look, will also know that these documents can't be modified in the Trash, but rather need to be saved to a different location if you make changes to them (which is what the doc's app tells you when you try to edit these opened, trashed files). But that would be a thin line of logic. It's more likely they just "forgot" to change the original behavior of the Trash window.

On second thought, rather than being likely Apple forgot to change the original behavior of the Trash window, to match that of Quick Look's ability to open documents in the Trash, Apple probably neglected to add to Quick Look, the inability to open documents in the Trash.

I would say this is a bug that some will see as a feature. I think that Apple's stance - and i agree - is you shouldn't open files in the trash, period - it could cause a lot of headache.
