10.5: Show file in Finder from the Open dialog box System 10.5
I found this by accident while trying to find a target for a broken alias. While browsing the file system in an File » Open dialog box, pressing Command-R will open (and bring to the front) a new Finder window showing the chosen item's folder in the Finder. Note that you must have a file or folder selected in the dialog box for this to work.

Curiously, the File » Save dialog box also tries to perform this behavior, but only switches to the Finder without the desired folder appearing in a new window. Presumably this is because you cannot select a file in the Save dialog box.

Brilliant discovery! Thanks for sharing that. It seems like a little tip, but for round-the-clock Mac users like me, this tip can save time, and save wear & tear on my poor, tired hands. Thanks!

Great hint. Actually, you can select a file in a save as dialog. Selecting a file (even one that's grayed out) changes the save as name to the selected file.

Two others for you: Cmd-I will do a Finder Get Info, and Cmd-F will focus on the Spotlight search field.

Actually, the Save Panel seems to be part of the Finder. Several more shortcuts from Finder's "Go" menu work: Computer/Desktop/Home/Applications/Network/Utilities/Go to Folder, but not "Connect to Server". BTW: Command-D for "Desktop" works as well as Command-Shift-D.
Once again: It's a pity that Apple is not announcing these timesavers by itself.

And its also a pity that Apple don't pay any attention to the "Recent Places" and you had to install Default Folder to make it work as it should.
