My partner is a Windows guy. I am a Mac guy. He was on site with a customer trying to get a new MacBook Pro (MBP) to print to a shared HP PhotoSmart 7960 which was connected to a WinXP Pro SP2 PC. Should have been a five minute job.

The printer works just fine when directly connected to the PC or to the MBP using the HP drivers. It simply would not work via the shared printer queue. We tried everything! Reviewed all of the online literature, etc. After an hour of this, we finally decided to try the Gutenprint drivers (the new name of Gimp-Print) that come with Leopard. Worked like a charm!

Hi,

I'm facing a similar problem with a HP OfficeJet 4255 (All-in-One). I tried using the GutenPrint drive but without luck. Yes, it does work when plugged either to the Windows box or to my MBP.

Any clue or any direction I should be looking?

Yes : if the message is about NT_AUTHORIZATION, you should look at the URL the printer is seen by the system.
For me, it was sending over SMB a wrong username/pass.
try this :

there is also a way to edit that in the config file, but I can't remember right now the file's location.

My HP photosmart printer 7960 will print in black and white but not in color cheap web hosting. I have checked all the color cartridges and the settings but it still won't work. dedicated servers I have downloaded the new driver for it on my Win. Vista . It was working fine before my up-grade to Vista. Can anyone provide suggestions I might try? domain registration
