Use iTunes search box to search by star rating Apps
The iTunes search engine seems to handle star ratings now, at least using 10.5.2 and iTunes 7.6. I was looking for an album name, and added a "*" to the search. iTunes came back with the name, and all of them with one or more star. The more stars you add to your search, the higher rating it looks for.

[robg adds: I'm not sure when this was added, but based on this older hint, I don't think it's always worked. iTunes runs a "greater than or equal to" search for the number of stars you put in the search field -- so to find all songs with exactly some rating, you'll need to use a Smart Playlist. But for quick searches, this works well. As noted, you can combine stars with other text, so you can find all the music by a given artist with a star rating of at least three by typing Beatles *** in the search box, for example.]

On a side note, the search also brings you tracks names that contain a star (*) in it, even if they don't have any rating.

Now if only there was a way to use this as a wildcard...

I was able to do this trick running on my MBP on Tiger (10.4.11) and the latest iTunes 7.6.1. Hope this helps.

What I'd rather see in iTunes is a feature where as I could put songs in a queue and it should be unlimited to the amount of songs that are in the queue.

"Queue" in iTunes

  1. Make a new playlist. Name it "Queue" if it helps you feel better.
  2. Drag the songs you want to that playlist.
  3. There is no step 3.
