Like many others, I've had trouble getting "Back to my Mac" working. However, I noticed that If I connect my home computer (iMac) to my iDisk before leaving home, I'm then able to see/connect to it from any remote location from my MacBook Pro.

i tried this. it allows me to see my home computers now...however, i get the "connection failed" message when i try to connect...it would be spiffy if apple could sort this one out.

Gave it a try ... no joy. I've given up trying Back-to-my-Mac for the time being. I've started using logmein.com to do screensharing over the internet -- slow but works well. Looking forward to when Apple gets this working.

check out hamachi from logmein.com it is much better and allows you to connect afp shares and others from any computer as well as screen sharing.

I have used hamachi ... but it has some problems. One is stability -- under a repeatable scenario it can freeze up my machine. The second is a runaway process that need to be periodically killed. I WISH it worked for me!

i've also haven't had luck to make it working. i'm hoping for 10.5.2, but it could be also my bt router as there are lines about disabled wide area bonjour. however, i just set up dyndns, made port forwarding and can now access my computer remotely with wee screen sharing app in system > library > core services.

Mounting my iDisk (on my home machine) was the key to allow me to do screen sharing and mounting the HD of my home machine. Thanks!

Correction: So far this has worked only for a non-Airport network, two Airport networks that I've visited today did not allow me to see my home computer despite it being on and iDisk mounted...

I also cannot make this work. There is no DNS entry (dig reports no IP) for [mymachinename].[mymembername].members.mac.com. I have also tried mounting my iDisk, waiting for 30 minutes, and trying the name with the qualifying '.'

This would be a nice alternative to running a DynDNS or other background app. If anyone has any more insight on how to get this working, it would be great to hear.
