10.5: Enable two-finger clicking on some PowerBooks System 10.5

With Leopard, Apple has given PowerBook users the ability to secondary (right) click with two fingers on the track pad! In Tiger, this was only possible on MacBook/MacBook Pros.

In the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences panel, go to Trackpad and enable "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click." Thank you Apple for adding this functionality which previously was only available by buying new hardware! I have only tested this on a G4 Powerbook 15" 1.67Ghz -- I don't know if it appears when loading Leopard on other PowerBooks.

This will only work on PPC laptops that are able to two-finger scroll, which is the last revision of the iBook and I think the last two revisions of the PowerBook.

It works too on my PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz under MacOS X 10.4.8

I don't understand what you mean by "it works on 10.4.8" I have the last version of the Powerbook, running 10.4.11, and I see no such option. Where exactly did you find this running 10.4?

It doesn't work on my PB15" 1,25GHz. Too bad, but I'm happy that there's an alternative way for scrolling on the powerbook. Sidetrack now also works on leopard and gives you some more options beyond scrolling.

I missed that since Leopard and tried all these iscroll2 hacks but nothing worked. Now this is great, thanks for the wonderful info!! : D

iScroll2 does still work on Leopard, but you have to enable Trackpad Gestures in System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse.

It works on my G4 12" iBook as well! What a useful feature. Great hint!!!

This is so incredibly awesome. I've always envied the MacBooks/Pros with this feature, and got used to using it on my wife's MacBook. I had never understood why it wasn't available to the two-finger-scrolling-enabled PowerBooks.

I've got a feeling this might have come with 10.5.1 too; I'm pretty sure I went looking for it nanoseconds after my initial Leopard install and was disappointed that it wasn't there.

This option doesn't appear at all for my 1.5Ghz 15" Powerbook (2nd to last edition, I think the last one was 1.67 and did two finger scrolling).

i am sad. my trackpad 'supports' multi finger input, but the option isn't in my pref pane!!
