10.5: Install two additional screen savers System 10.5
If you'd like even more screen savers, the Developer Tools includes two additional ones you can use: Retro and Security. Retro takes your screen, gives it a sepia tone, and bounces it up and down. Your friends will run up to you screaming, "You're monitor is broken!" Security simply takes a bunch of pictures from your iSight and displays them in a grid. It really is awesome.

You'll find the screen savers here:
/Developer/Examples/Quartz Composer/Compositions/Screen Savers
To install, copy them into your user's /Library/Screen Savers folder. Voila! They'll show up in the Other section of the Screen Savers tab of the Desktop & Screen Savers System Preferences panel.

When I submitted this, I gave /System/Library/Screen Savers as the install directory. I strongly recommend this! If you install in your User folder they will appear as Custom Screensavers. Anyways, wouldn't you rather make them systemwide?

I changed it because, quite honestly, it's not the right thing to do. Modifying the system folder is a Really Bad Thing to do. If you take that route, you risk having your screen savers vanish with a future system update. You'll also lose them if you migrate to another machine. Or if you restore from an install DVD. And so on...

If they're in your user's folder, they won't be lost unless you wipe out your user and start over.

As a happy medium, you could also use /Library/Screen Savers. Anything placed there will be accessible to all users, and you don't have to modify the System folder to accomplish that goal.

Though you're right about the screensavers disappearing when you reinstall the OS, the only way they'll display as "Built-In" is if they're in /System.

And what's so bad about modifying system files? If you really screw things up that bad, just do an archive+install.
Also, there have been so many hints about modding the Dock, the menubar, TM... on the scale, adding a few .qtz files to a system folder is pretty basic (and 100% safe in 98% of the circumstances).

cool. Nice April Fool's joke to set the retro one when someone walks away from their Mac. And the security one only takes snaps when it senses motion.

Developer Tools are not installed unless they are specifically chosen to be installed. I found the below information which I am doing now:

Insert your Leopard DVD and when the window opens double-click Optional Installs folder, open XcodeTools folder, and finally double-click XcodeTools.mpkg to install it.

I installed the developer tools and the two screensavers are pretty cool. But the Developer folder and its contents are 2.44 GB. I'm trashing it now and keeping the screensavers.
