I just got my copy of Leopard, and while I must admit that I am half-happy with it, there are a few interesting new features.

Among them a small application named iSync Plug-in Maker, included in the Developer tools (/Developer » Applications » Utilities). The name says it all! It probably does little more than what we did in Tiger by hacking existing plug-ins, but at least it's a clean way.

[robg adds: I took a look at this app, and it's quite polished; it even includes image wells for dropping in photos of the new device to use as icons.]

Does anyone know if this can be used to delete some lingering iSync items that show up in my .Mac preferences section? I've got some Chronos things when I tried out Chronos Notes for awhile that I cannot get rid of, even after contacting and trying Chronos' own suggestions and utilities.

As Christian notes below, the dev tools come with an app called "Syncrospector." It does what you want.

Open it up, select "Clients" from the pull-down menu in the top left corner. Scroll through the list and select the offending item, and click "Unregister." Select "Schema" from the pull-down, and remove the desired entry(-ies) there, too.

Don't touch anything else, because it's possible/likely you'll end up with missing data. After all, you're tinkering in the same realm that Apple recommends be kept away from "as if it were a swarm of bees."

There's also a new version of Syncrospector, which can be very handy to debug sync conflicts. It used to have to be downloaded separately, but now it's included in XCode package (/Developers/Applications/Utilities).

Sorry for the dumb question but...
Can you make a plug-in for (almost) any device that can be sync'ed on your computer or is it just for devices that can already be sync'ed via iSync?

Like, could I make a plug-in for sync'ing my iPod (since it can't be sync'ed via iSync because of iTunes)?
