10.5: Apply image filters to Address Book photos Apps
I was surprised to find a great many effect filters available when setting photos in Leopard's Address Book -- six pages of them! Included are hologram, ASCII art(!), and other great ones. To check them out, just load up Address Book, edit the image in one of your contacts, and click the swirly effects button next to the camera button.

Now, how can I go about using those effects in PhotoBooth?!

Why does Address Book get more effects than PhotoBooth?!

Go to System/Library/Compositions.
Copy the effects you want from address book to your user/Library/Compositions (create the folder if it doesn't exist). Open Photo Booth and/or iChat. There they are!

Nevermind. I tried with Black and white and color pencil, which are photo booth effects. Of course they'd work ;)

You have to edit the quartz files to make them photo booth compatible. I did City Lights, working on the others.

If you want to see the City Lights I converted for Photo Booth/iChat use, get it here:
http://www.advancedphotowork.com/quartz/citylights.qtz.zip

You can edit this in Quartz Composer (included on your system installation disk) and edit the address book effects, replacing out the City Lights effect section with the one from your address book effect and save it with a new name.

This can also be done in the new Workgroup Manager on Leopard server.

This works for every app that uses Address Book's "snapshot"... library... thing (i.e. Adium).
