10.5: Auto remove printer icon from Dock after print System 10.5
Probably not a major hint, but something interesting I just noticed, as well as how to fix it.

During my time with a developer copy of Leopard (about two months), I noticed that the printer icon would remain in dock after a print. I just never thought about it much until today, when I was cleaning up the Dock after loading the final release of 10.5. If you control-click the printer icon and select Auto Quit from the contextual menu, the printer icon will then disappear when future print jobs complete.

Again, not a major hint, just an interesting thing that I would have thought would have been enabled by default.

Agreed! I've just been right-clicking > Quit this whole time. I guess I'm just too quick! Great job.

You're right, not a major hint but it never occurred to me to right-click on the icon. My life has just gotten .00001% better! :)

Is there a similar fix for 10.4? This happens on quite a few of our Tiger machines.

When my machine was on Tiger, if I had a look at the printer queue the icon would then hang around in the Dock. If I left it in the background it would disappear when finished.

I'd also love to know if anyone's got a way to do this on 10.4.

It'll be a while before my company upgrades to Leopard...and this issue drives me nuts!

Does the "Auto Quit" function have an equivalent in 10.4 that's just a little more "hidden"?
