10.5: How to use InputManagers (Inquisitor, etc) in 10.5 System 10.5
I discovered a general technique to enable input managers in Safari 3.0 in 10.5, and used it to enable Inquisitor, David Watanabe's great auto-complete web search plug-in. Here are the steps:
  1. Install Inquisitor if you don't already have it. No, it won't work until you complete the following procedure, but it must be installed first.
  2. Move the plug-in from your user-specific input manager folder to the system-wide input manager folder, using Terminal:
    sudo mv ~/Library/InputManagers/Inquisitor /Library/InputManagers
  3. Change the ownership of the entire plugin directory to root/admin:
    sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/InputManagers/Inquisitor
  4. Restart Safari
That's it. Inquisitor is now enabled in Safari 3.0 on Leopard!

[robg adds: The top-level InputManagers folder is the new 10.5-approved way of doing these things. As noted on the linked blog (or in Apple's developer note, there's a hint that this function may stop working entirely in a future update.)

Please also note that a much more dynamic way of doing InputManagers is to use the (still functional) SIMBL lib.
You don't have to fool with root admin access and items can be installed on a per user basis (~/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins) or globally (/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins)
SafariStand uses SIMBL, so it didn't even break on the new OS.

PithHelmet... must have PithHelmet...

I'm currently browsing with Firefox until I can get decent adblocking in place in Safari, but I'd much rather be using Safari... just not with ads :(

Same here -- I have tried many things, and yet still no ad blocking in Safari 3.

Anyone know how to get SAFT working (or if this method works), or if there will be an update.

A new (10.0.1) Saft is now out that works via this method.

I don't know what I could be doing wrong, but these instructions did not work for me, and I followed them correctly. I bought the retail version of Leopard at my local Apple Store about 3 days after it was released. I hope Apple changes this.
