10.5: Save time when assigning programs to Spaces System 10.5
After you've assigned an app to one of your spaces, and you select it in the Application Assignments list, the space it resides in becomes highlighted in the graphical representation above the list. The highlight moves to whichever space you assign in the list, and it will change as you move between applications in the list.

When you are setting up your spaces and you want to assign several apps to one of your spaces, just add the first app and assign it to the desired space (the space is now highlighted). If you now click on the plus sign to get the Open dialog, you can choose multiple apps by command-clicking the ones you need.

When you have selected all the apps you want to reside in the highlighted space, just click Add, and all the selected apps will be assigned to that space. Just repeat the process for each space, and you're done.

10.5: Save time when Adding Applications to the Spaces List

I would also suggest, when you are in the Space prefpane.
That instead of clicking the plus button, and navigating to the apps folder inside of it.
Open up the application's folder in 'Finder" as a window. Select all the apps you may ever want to add to the list.
Then drag and drop them onto the list. They all get added at the same time.

You can also drag the applications from the finder onto the space graphic above the list. It saves a lot of time when you're assigning several apps to the same space.

Easier, just drag and drop the Applications onto the space (in the System Prefs) you want them assigned to. Easy as that.

this is not the sig you`re looking for.

Thanks for these tips guys, they will save me much time in making assignments.

I wish you could have a Wild Card app Space assignment.

For example:

I want App A on Space 2, App B on Space 3, and App C on Space 4... and EVERYTHING ELSE on Space 1 regardless if I open it while on another Space.

I could be alone in this wish.

Spaces is absolutely frustrating if you want to use some applications (for me it's mostly Finder, TextMate and Terminal) in more than one space, without having all the windows showing in all the spaces.

Just because I have Terminal open in space 1 doesn't at all mean that I want to be taken to that space when I switch to Terminal in space 3. It mostly means that I want to open a new Terminal window in space 3.

Right now I'm contemplating going back to Virtue, which is something I *really* don't want.

you dont have to just move the different terminal windows to different spaces then use "apple + terminal number". Or why dont use tabs in terminal?

I don't want to have to move the windows.

Let's take another example. I double-click on a text file in Finder. That means that I want to open that file in the space I'm currently in. But that will probably not happen. Instead I will be zapped to another space where I happened to already have my text editor open with some other file. Not what I want.

Does anyone know how to add the Finder to ALL areas of Spaces?

You'll find Finder.app in /System/Library/CoreServices/
