You can get the same info plus more in System Profiler - Hardware - Bluetooth.

Looks like that's the software version.

In my case, MacBook Pro 17" Core 2 Duo with buit-in bluetooth, when I click in the "BlueTooth Device Name" it shows the name, MAC address, Apple BlueTooth Software Versión and the chipset manufacturer with the firmware version.

I also have a PowerMac G5 DP 2.7GHz with a D-Link DBT-120 USB bluetooth module and it works the same. Both machines are running Mac OS X 10.4.9 with all updates.

I have a USB Bluetooth DBT-120 with Apple firmware update and says

the 'hidden' info from the BT system prefs does show some but not all of the info for BT from System Profile ....

machine name: zahadum

by comparing this System Prefs summary for the 4th field ('unknown') with the full info obtained from System Profiler, i am assuming that the last field in teh Prefs is supposed to be for the OEM's name ... in the System Profiler:USB Info, the device name is ISSCBTA.

but if the usb details (name etc) are stored in the dongle's ROM, the why does the 'hidden' textfield that is toggled in the BT Sys Prefs indicate the name as 'unknown'? .... the always useful 'Peripheral Vision' (a bezel-services device-notifier does not report 'unknown' as the device name - it reports the same, full, info as the System Profiler usb info (namely 'ISSC BTA').

NB: google does indicate that ISSC is a major oem for BT Adadpters.


note: System Profiler reports the usb info (not the BT info) as containing a version numer (3.73) ... this presumably is NOT the BT rom version but the USB host adapter ROM version number, yes?

By looking at the System Profiler, it is clear that the other strings in the 4th field of the Sys Prefs summary refer to the version numbers for the 'HCI' and 'LMP'-- but i dont kow exactly what these mean even after googling ;-)

1) hmmm, while i noted that the oem of my BTA - ISSC - pops up in google searches for BTA's, i notice that it does NOT seem to be listed in the list of known vendors in the BT specs ... so i am not sure about the signifigance of that discrepency.

2) i was fl;ip when i said that google doesnt really enlighten much when it comes to the meaning of the H.xxxx and L.xxxx version-number info listed in Systen Profiler (and unlabaled in the Sys Prefs textfield toggle) ...

but that isnt really true ... the H series is for the host controller (transport) and the L series is for the link layer (setup etc).
