Unfortunately I've had to repeat this procedure several times in the past few days.

I and many others have experienced the same problems with the non-working right click on the wireless mighty mouse. For some users (like me), the solution described by this hint is only a temporary fix. Eventually the right click stops working again.

I was told by an Apple Store genius that it's a known issue, that it's software/machine related and that Apple is working on it, . A quicker though still temporary solution he told me about was to open mouse preferences, select another option in the right button drop-down, and then re-select the secondary button option.

Now in the meantime, if someone could create an applescript that I can invoke with a hot button through quicksilver to do this, I'd be a happy camper. Someone, please ;-)

Is your index finger touching the left button? If so, then the right-click does not work. Your index finger must be completely off the left button for the right click to work, otherwise the right-click registers as a left click.

would be great if only our fingers would be the problem. Of course the finger is off the left button...!

It *is* a hardware problem and Apple is aware of it. I brought my mouse to our local distributor. They called me a few days later to say that they found no problem with my mouse. I then pointed them to the (much longer) discussion about the matter at the Apple Support forums. The distributor called me back a few days later to say that my mouse was replaced by Apple.

If you're experiencing a right-click problem, have it replaced. ASAP.

It is not a software issue since this new mouse has been working great ... right out of the box.

I too suffered the on and off blues to get my BT Mighty Mouse right click working. I permanently fixed my BT Mighty Mouse this way (been working for over a week without being turned off and still using the original batteries after five months):

1. Follow the steps for disassembling the MM on many of the web sites until you have the upper shell separated from the base. I found removing the bottom grey ring the easiest method.

2. Inside the upper shell you will see the plastic backed carbon traces used to detect the finger locations. In the centre of the upper shell is also a copper strip adhered to the shell. The plastic traces and the copper shim have a connection through a carbon dot on the shell where there are two holes next to a black carbon dot. I found that there were two issues with my MM that may have caused my issues. The first was that the plastic detectors were not fully adhered and flat on the inner shell. Then I found that the small carbon button which contacts the copper was not fully pressed down. I ran my finger over the entire internal surface of the shell to press down the adhesive bonded parts and then reassembled the mouse.

3. Instead of gluing the bottom grey ring back on the mouse, fit it in place with small sections of 3M invisible tape, over the grey ring and upper case, just in case things go awry again. If they're small enough, you won't see them when the mouse in operation and the case remains securely closed. Once you are sure you have no more problems then you can add a dab or two of superglue to permanently close the case at a later date or still have access to clean the scroll mechanism at a later time as well.

The other outcome might be that my disassembly and reassmbly reseated a poorly contacting cable(s) from the base the the upper shell. Either way, I have a fully functioning right click again in all situations. I have not had to remove the batteries in the mouse for over a week now whereas the power reset was becoming an hourly occurrence previously.

Cleaned the scroll wheel at the same time the case was apart. Cheers...

I have a wired Mighty Mouse and this happens to me after my iBook has been on for a long time and the mouse has been plugged in and unplugged several times. This leads me to believe that this might indeed be a software problem (or at least the problem may have a software component). I tried going into System Preferences and changing the secondary action to be the same as primary, quitting System Preferences, then changing the secondary button back to normal and that seems to be a quick fix. Obviously a reboot also works, but who wants that?

Please guys, for all of you experiencing problems with the MM right click, I'd suggest reading sfgecko hint. It worked with me! No more problems with MM right click. Really, really usefull. Thank you sfgecko!

I found what's wrong with the mighty.
I think the MM is very sensitive. That is the problem.
When I (we) click the right button (actually there is only one button), I put my index finger too.
Maybe the not so old habit from the two button mices.

Try this.
Put your index finger OFF from the mouse when clickin' the right side.
