Add WMA files to iTunes Apps
Probably none of us has ever encoded our music into the WMA format, but most of our cousins have. iTunes refuses to manage WMA files (just for a marketing reason?), but here's how we can fool it:
  1. Install Flip4Mac's WM Components (from their download page), required to play WMA in QuickTime, the Finder's preview column, and many other applications -- but not iTunes!
  2. Open your WMA file in QuickTime Player (Pro version required), then save as reference movie.
  3. Drag the newly created .mov file onto iTunes. Now you can play it as you would any other song.
Some metadata is copied to the QuickTime file, and you can edit/add tags in iTunes. Remember to keep the original WMA files in place, as your reference .mov files still point to them. If you don't mind one more conversion step, you can then liberate your WMAs within iTunes. Select your WMA songs in iTunes, go to the Advanced Menu, click Convert selection to MP3/AAC, then enjoy your music on the iPod you just won at Mac OS X hints.

Just thought i'd throw this out there, I use an app called Easywma (http://www.easywma.com/) - for ten bucks you get great conversion with batching capabilities.

I would pay $10, but it doesn't do the ID3 tags.

Well, you might not win the iPod. This Previous hint covers the same thing, for any movie type that Quicktime supports. Follow the comments on that hint to find links to an Applescript which automates the process.

This process will also work for any type of video file. Such as .avi

The best way for me is to get the Switch app - you can add a folder with your wma's and convert them to mp3s all at once. Then, just drag them to iTunes!

I would like to warn others:
Neither Switch nor any other app can do anything with a DRM .WMA file on a Mac. I understand that people need to protect their intellectual property. For that reason I legally purchased audio books. Also legally purchased the flip4mac WMV Player Pro. Only to discover that Mac users are locked out of using wma files that are rights protected (drm). This is also theft, no less reprehensible than piracy, because I paid for them. No refund because the small print says I should have established first whether I can play wma files on my "device". Yes, I can - but not if they are rights protected - because then they need to be converted first.
