This is just totally hypothetical as I do not wish to sacrifice my Intel Mac to test, but wouldn't this work as well:

Use dd to dump the Windows partition to a file.
Share out the file's location to Parallels.
Boot a Linux LiveCD in the Parallels virtual machine and use dd to restore the image.
Use Windows Repair on the virtual machine.

Now if someone will just figure out how to boot using the Windows XP partition from Boot Camp in Parallels Desktop. Be nice to have one install that can either be natively booted into or run in Parallels Desktop.

I tried this once, and somehow my Java Runtime Engine got corrupted - which I depend on for the work I do - I had to reinstall it from scratch. I haven't retried to see if this process would do it again, can't afford the downtime.

This latest build and an accompanying tool to be run from within Boot Camp allow you to use your Boot Camp partition as your Parallels Guest PC Host Drive (or whatever they call it.)

Unfortunately, this did NOT work for me for some reason. Supposedly the error I experienced - error 1 - will be fixed in an update in January.

It's much simpler than it is described in the post mentioned in the hint. I simply ran my XP in Parallels from the bootcamp partition and used Parallels Transporter which you an grab from the Parallels homepage. Then run the Transporter client on your Mac, it wil detect the Transporter server on XP running in virtualization. It then simply creates a new Parallels VM using the data and the disk from the running bootcamp vm.

This just worked for me after several failed attempts. I just kept clicking migrate after getting an error message, and eventually (after maybe 7 or 8 times?) it worked. This was with build 5582 of Parallels Desktop for Mac and build 1456 of Parallels Transporter installed within Windows XP.
