Is it possible to share a calendar between two users? I.e., can two computers publish the same ics file and not step on each other's toes?

I publish my family's calendar from iCal, and my wife reads it at work using a web browser, but she'd like to be able to edit and post events. She's on Windows XP. What software can she use to collaborate with me on our calendar?

Works perfectly. It is one of the easiest to setup and no posting calender on internet.

TIP: It helps to open port 24080 for iCal bonjour in Firewall tab.

There's another easy method too, which works with any standard web server with php support:

There's a plugin which lets you publish stuff from iCal. It's called calendars/publish.ical.php and is included by default with this application.

I strongly support PHPiCalendar, and it should be underlined that once installed on your ISP or own server, it will "look like" a webdav server to iCal, while *not* requiring webdav in any way. Very nifty PHP code :-)

BTW, if you need "more" than just publishing a number of calendars from ical, you then have WebCalendar that will allow you to edit right on the server from anywhere, and you still can subscribe to it from iCal afterwards.
The only issue with WebCalendar is that contrary to PHPiCalendar, it won't digest iCal publishings automatically (it has a nice GUI to transfer iCal files manually, so that's OK for displacing an iCal calendar, but not at all for daily updates)
To some extent I wonder whether this is not an issue from iCal (not really being intended a collaborative, group calendar application)

I daily use both of them: PHPiCalendar to see a series of "home-created" schedules from everywhere, and WebCalendar to send back home events I create on my work PC.
When at home iCal sees all, when at work I get all in two tabs on Firefox (PHPiCal + WebCal)

I use iCal Exchange (www.icalx.com) as well, and it's great. It also has the added bonus of being able to have password protected (called private) calendars. You can also have public calendars that are wide open. Very useful!

Infurious, a new Mac software company, is about to release two interesting products in this area.

SyncBridge will duplicate .Mac functionality (allowing editable sharing of calendars) but for more than 3 Macs.

SyncBridge GE will allow you to use iCal to view and modify your Google Calendar.

Both to be released in the next month or so. (and yes, I am involved with them)

When I connect by webdav to box.com I am able to upload files by dragging them into folders. But then they Vanish from view. I can still see them on the box.com safari access but they are invisible to the finder mounted webdav folder. Anyone know how to fix this.

Apparently there's a bug in the Finder WebDAV client (or Box.net, I'm not sure which) involving filenames with spaces. The Automator action on that site replaces the spaces with underscores.

Also, I've found that Transmit works well with Box.net.

I think I got "publish" and "sync" confused, because I got all excited when I first saw this hint, thinking I'd finally be able to keep my iCal sync'd without a .Mac account.

I tried publishing, though, and the big drawback I saw was that I can't change the calendar I subscribe to.

I have an iPod -- isn't that supposed to sync iCals for me? I was already using iCal on 3 different Macs before I got the iPod, which might explain why I haven't found the magic combo of preferences that will just sync the iCal for any of these machines.

Just posting here must have lit a fire under me, because I think I just figured it out. Looks like I have 2 Macs synchronizing via iPod. I think the key was to delete all iCal calendars from one Mac's iCal, then import .ics files from the other computer. Now each computer has same cal files to start with, and it looks like it's synchronizing. I'll know for sure in a few days, when my iCals either stay synced or don't.
