No. You don't need Bonjour or another soft for this. If the printer is shared on mac, just go on PC to network places, choose view computers in workgroup and your mac will there appear. Double click on mac icon. You will see shared folder and shared printer/printers. Double click on printer and windows will add them. Here the point is - when you will be asked for a printer driver, don't choose one for your printer. The right driver is Apple postscript printer driver.

That is. Now you can print from Windows to mac-shared printer.

Having just fought with XP refusing to delete a shared printer so that it could be re-added using the method in the previous comment, I have to say I found the Bonjour setup wizard to work very slick. So far it doesn't seem to be suffering from the problems I had with the standard sharing method.

A good hint if your allowed to install Bonjour on your XP system.

That method does not work with this printer specifically and probably many other printers. It never prints. You select the i960 driver and nothing ever happens. Hook the printer up to an Airport Express and neither Mac nor Windows can print to it in a useable fashion.

This method how ever worked!! Awesome! I tried creating a generic postscript printer on windows and then sending it via lpd that didn't work either. Thanks again!

I have spent quite some time on this topic, and have found nothing but bad-out dated data on this issue. I will contribute my personal experience here: Simply TURN ON PRINTER SHARING ON YOUR MAC, LOAD THE BONJUR SOFTWARE ON WINDOWS, use the ""WIZZARD"" You should be good to go. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE WINDOWS SHARING OR SMB ENABLED ON YOUR MAC!!!!! !!!!! THIS IS ONLY NEEDED IF YOU ARE USING MAC OS X LOWER THAN 10.4. IF BONJOUR IS NOT WORKING FOR YOU It's because of NAT/FIREWALL ISSUES, that you must resolve. That's All for me. Hope this helps clear things up. -EOF- Side note: leave the wizard to do everything, do not try and chose your print driver, leave the wizard default..generic whatever should do it.

When I follow the Bonjour steps, I get an error message on the PC saying that I don't have "sufficient privileges" to access the MAC. is this a NAT/Firewall issue or something else? Is this caused by the fact that the Mac that the printer is connected to is accessing the network via a wireless router?

I have a G5 DP 1.8, Tiger 10.4.6, Epson 1270 connected though a USB hub (mac). I followed "yellowdentin's" post. Didn't work for me. Then I tried "digitol" method ( Windows Sharing = OFF, Printer Sharing = ON). My test file on my PC tired to print but would stop with an error in the spooler window. I went to the PC control panel "Printer and Faxes" and view the properties of the printer created by Bonjour, in the "Advanced" tab I clicked the radial button "Print directly to the Printer", it was set on "Spool print documents . . .", it worked!

This is supporting the current hint. Which I agree with. My post above is directed to counter the post of someone earlier who said bonjur not needed use SMB. IMHO, it's easier MUCH easier/quicker with bonjur! So long as you have TIGER.

One of the problems with trying to use "normal" Windoze network printing services is that if you change the domain/workgroup name from the default "WORKGROUP" then the Windoze box wants a domain controller to manage the name space. Since the Mac replaced the pee cee that was the domain controller, using Windoze networking was problematic.

With this tip, I was able to set my wife's XP system to print on my printer connect to my Mac (some day I will convince her to upgrade). Now we can share the printer without having to have her drop files into a shared folder for me to print. She can print at will!

This is one of the best tips I've received. THANKS!!!!!

The bonjour seems to work fine for me as well on the windows box's.. However, I have a Brother HL-5150D series printer.. I guess the printer type dosen't matter, only that mine is a full duplex model.. I'd like to make use of that on the windows network somehow.. When I choose full duplex on the windows brother hl-5150d driver it just prints a blank page at the end.. I don't suppose there is a workaround for full duplex printers..?

Went to try this tip with my wife's Windows laptop, but discovered it won't work since Bonjour for Windows won't run on it (she's running Windows 98). What other ways exist to accomplish the same result?

This tip ended months of frustrating effort to enable print sharing on my home network. If saving time and effort is a priority for you, I recommend you use bonjour as others have mentioned.

Thanks so much for this hint. I concur with two of the previous posters that a) whether Bonjour is necessary or not, it sure makes this EASIER! and b) it would be nice to be able to select your actual printer (I have it installed to use USB if I want/have to on the Windows laptop so the drivers are present) instead of generic/postscript, which uses drivers for an HP Color Laserjet 4550PS, so that I could use the duplex feature of my Canon Pixma MP830. Still, I'm pretty pleased to have done this in almost no time after wasting an hour or so trying to edit the CUPS configuration files and install a separate version of the printer on the Mac through the CUPS configuration in my web browser, none of which worked anyway.

the key for me was the "generic postscript" driver....I had installed the driver specific for my printer (Canon MP750) on my XP laptop, and could see the printer connected to the iMac, but printing gave me nothing (not even an error). Switching to the generic postscript driver worked the first time. THANK YOU.

The question I have is can you print in color? I have the HP Officejet 6200 series all in one hooked up to my Mac and I can print to it from my laptop pc with WinXP. The problem is that it won't print color only black. Any ideas you may have would be appreciated.

I am using this hint - it was the only way that I was able to print from a PC to my Mac-connected HP deskjet.

There is still one issue - the printing is VERY SLOW, compared to local printing. I can't believe it is a network issue - the PC is running inside the Mac under Parallels.

Has anyone found any settings on the PC or Mac for speeding up printing from a PC to a networked printer on a Mac using Postscript?

This was helpful but let me take this further -

We have a G4 (running Tiger) connected to Canon Pixma 7500 printer via USB, and now a PC laptop running VISTA on our home network. Both the Mac and the PC are connected to the same router, though the PC only wirelessly.

We would like to be able to print off the (wireless) Vista-running notebook to our printer via the Mac.

I believe Bonjour does not yet support Vista, but conversely, sharing is supossedly easier in Vista anyway? SO far I cannot get it to print or even see the printer (printer sharing and file sharing are on).

Another option if I must have still-unsupported Bonjour on the Vista PC to get this work via software is:

to connect the printer directly to the router instead - though I'm not sure this is necessary, and in fact I'm not even sure if this device would support Canon printers.
