Make iWeb create text instead of images Apps
On some systems, users have found that when they publish their iWeb web pages, the text comes out as one large image instead of text. It's been found that this is due to a version of Arial that appears to give iWeb indigestion.

If you open Font Book and click the disclosure triangle beside Arial to open it, you'll see two sets of each font. Then use Get Info (Command-I) to see the version numbers listed for each. If you deactivate all of the Version 2.90 fonts under Arial (Bold, Bold Italic, Italic, Regular) then any new page you create will show up as text (the old pages will complain of not having ArialMS, etc.).

I haven't figure out how to make a document that was created using the 2.90 fonts work with the 2.60 fonts, but I wanted to post this here so a solution to that last part can be found.

Why would you be using Arial anyway? Use Helvetica or Verdana.

It's part of the template package provided by Apple. They use all kinds of krazy fonts.

Helvetica isn't installed by default on all platforms, which is why they would be using Arial

A proper WYSIWYG app would add the demonic Arial into the CSS class for the text, when you create text in Helvtica so that the poor Windows users who are cursed with only having Arial can at least see what the page sort of looks like.

As an aside, the first thing I do after installing ANY MS software is go through my system and delete every copy of Arial I find.

I don't get why it should ever generate an image from text rather than creating a normal CSS font-family rule with several possible fonts listed and ending with a generic "sans-serif", "serif" or "monospaced"

It's just bizarre to generate images.

If you set drop shadows on the fonts, it also renders them out as images

That is to be expected, since drop-shadows are a graphic adjustment to the text, rather than a font-style like bold or italic.

However, I have to agree that it's taking WYSIWIG to extremes to render text as an image when a CSS font-family would suffice.

cheers

I knew Apple would make a really pretty WYSIWYG web page maker and I guess making a block of text an image might be a 'feature.'

Despite that I'll never use it since I always avoid these programs like the plague. I prefer my code not to be bloated like most of these programs love to do.

Remember, iWeb is not for web site pros. It's not for people who would just as soon do it in raw HTML. This is for dips like me. I am too lazy to spend the extended time it would take to become proficient with HTML just for a personal page. I just want to be able to easily setup and administer a decent looking site that doesn't look like it was thrown together by Beavis & Butthead.

Always remember the app's target audience. :-)

Strange I have only version 2.60 and version 3.05 of Arial..

My biggest complain about iWeb is that Arial and Verdana looks great in iWeb, but after publish the font looks more bold and very "blur".
