Subscribe to non-.Mac photocasts in iPhoto Apps
While iPhoto only supports photocasting via .Mac, it can subscribe to any photocast. Since photocasts are basically RSS feeds containing pictures, it's possible to subscribe to already existing feeds. To subscribe, use iPhoto -> File -> Subscribe to Photocast, and enter the feed URL there.

Try these, for instance (Control-click on the links and choose Copy Link from the pop-up menu, then paste into iPhoto): [robg adds: The first time I tried the above, both returned errors. However, when I re-entered them, they worked as described. I also tried the Flickr Desktop Exchange photo pool, which seemed to work, but then timed out loading the images.]

Subscribe to original images in Flickr feeds

Subscribing to the regular feeds from flickr is all well and good, but dates, keywords etc are lost from the feed. Also the feeds contain the smaller versions of the images not the full size ones.

I created this little web app that can take any flickr feed and turn it into a more iPhoto freindly feed. http://phlikr.3xi.org

Just paste the url of the flickr feed into the box, hit the button and iPhoto should then pop up, congrats your now subscribed.

A note. iPhoto handles keywords in an interesting way with regards to photocasts. If a photocast contains a keyword in your keyword list then it shows up as a keyword, if it isnt then the keyword is ignored. All photos from the feed I provide has a 'Photocast' keyword for easyier inclusion in smart folders.

Which as a sperate hint I guess brings me to this, a photocast cannot be selected to auto sync with an iPod, using the 'Photocast' keyword as the basis for a smart album it can be however.

I have been subscribed to endgaget for quite a while, Also hardmac Just be aware that feeds that use a lot of
images seem to get very cpu hungry.

Also these site have a RSS icon that will come up at the end main site url in the address bar.
Point being if you go to any site you are interested in, if it has the RSS in its url you should be able to subscribe to it.

What about "Family"?
Authored by: bkemper on Sat, Jan 21 2006 at 9:44AM PST
Flickr's feeds (at least in Safari) seem to be only for the public photos. How can I get a feed for my family's photos or friends photos. I can see them in Flickr, but not in the RSS.

access private flickr photos with photocastr.com
Authored by: yanowitz on Thu, Feb 2 2006 at 9:32AM PST
Hi,

I just put up a simple web app at photocastr.com that allows you to
authenticate your flickr account to it (read-only, naturally) and create
photocasts.

It's still quite alpha, but you can do basic tags and I pass through the
tags to iPhoto (as keywords). I use John's hack mentioned above and
include a Photocast keyword as well.

There will be a lot more features over the next week or so.

Enjoy!

Subscribe to original images in Flickr feeds

Seems to be down… I preferred this to photocastr since I could convert specific feeds (such as those from a pool), while photocastr seems to only allow searches.
